1) What are the main goals of each Masterplan for ICT in education and why do you think it is important for MOE to develop them?
The Masterplan 1 for ICT in Education was embarked in 1997 and up till 2002. The four main goals is to improve the connection between schools and the world, provide creative thinking of students in learning, improving the process of lifetime learning, and take responsibility of their own work. For Masterplan 2, it was embarked in 2003 up till 2008. Two of the goals are to improve the education methods and framework and by using ICT tools, it may help to alter to meet the needs of the students to enhance their capabilities and in the long run, would be able to stretch the students potential to the maximum. For Masterplan 3, it is embarked from 2009 up till 2014. Since this masterplan is still ongoing, the goverment still carry on the main aim of masterplan 1 and 2. This would help to change completely the learning atmosphere for the students and prepare them for the critical management of the situation in order to excel in this economy.
It is important for the MOE to develop these masterplan as it will benefit not only the teachers, students but people in the wholewide world in the long run. Students may soon be nurtured and polished to be independent learners where in overall would benefit the school environment.
2) Has any of the Masterplans impacted you as a student? Share your experience on how ICT had been used in the classes you attended as a student (if applicable). It is important for the MOE to develop these masterplan as it will benefit not only the teachers, students but people in the wholewide world in the long run. Students may soon be nurtured and polished to be independent learners where in overall would benefit the school environment.
I still remembered during my primary school days, when I was in primary 6, it was during the SARS outbreak period and students are not allowed to get out of the house. So in order for the students not to miss out lessons and falling behind syllabus, teacher communicate with us via email for any homeworks. She would appoint a leader to be in charge of a certain number of students and get the leaders to relay the message via email to the members. This was actually a tough period as we are not used to 'independent learning'. But as time passes by, it got easier as most of us adapted to the 'new' system.
3) How do you think the Masterplan 3 for ICT in Education may affect your role(s) as a beginning teacher?
With the use of technology that is constantly changing, there is no doubt that i think when I begin as a new teacher, there will be courses that I need undergo training of the ICTs. This is to ensure that I am constantly upgrade and keeping with the technology so that i can impart the knowledge learnt to the students.
Yes, it is important for us to continuously go for trainings to upgrade ourselves.
